No Name Needed: Anonymous Sex & Public Restrooms

Rest Stop.jpeg

From the Audio Vault of 2008

Sometimes there is more than one reason to use a public rest stop. It all begins with a parking spot, a look, and boys being boys. Married men, religious men, all types of men looking for something that's missing.

Meet Jack, a man who talks about his days frequenting public rest stops for anonymous sex. He talks about the buffet of cars filled with guys that are desperate for male interaction. They weren't looking for a soul mate, but someone they could be their authentic selves with while chatting and getting down to business.

I appreciated Jack's openness to discuss such a personal topic. At the time, public restrooms were all over the news. A cluster of politicians were caught in some precarious positions. Lots of shame surrounded their behavior, but we never heard the stories of the other men. Why they were there. What they were looking for. Jack and I discuss the parking lot protocol, conversations he's had while cruising multiple locations and what happens in the woods beyond the parking lot.

I met Jack on a date in the early 2000's at a wine bar in the Financial District of NYC. I remember it being an awful rainy night. We connected over Kelly Clarkson music. He told me her My December album was worth a listen. I loved his laugh and we became fast friends. I need to reconnect.
